StoryCorps: Brightness In Black

A celebration, a truth-telling, a showcase of the richness and complexity of Black life in America

The Nassau County Civil Rights tour highlights the civil rights struggles of African Americans living on Long Island. During this 5 stop audio tour, you will meet some of the resilient voices that stood up to inequality and helped contribute to the advancement of civil rights equality on Long Island.

The struggle continues though. Although things have come a long way, there is still a ways to go. Housing, educational, and income inequality still plague Nassau County today.

This tour is narrated by Dr. Georgette Grier-Key, the Executive Director of the Eastville Community Historical Society and historian. Join her on this enlightening trip through Long Island's lesser known histories.
