She served as a Special Education Teacher Assistant at Centennial Avenue Elementary School in Roosevelt, supporting students with diverse learning needs. Working closely with teachers and families, Tameka helped implement individualized lesson plans, provided small-group and one-on-one instruction, and encouraged students to reach their fullest potential both academically and personally. Her patience, compassion, and steady presence have made her an invaluable part of the school community.
Fluent in Spanish, Tameka also assists as an interpreter for parents and school administrators, helping ensure that Spanish-speaking families can fully participate in conversations about their children’s education. Beyond her professional work, Tameka is also a dedicated artist and cultural leader with more than 20 years of experience in the performing arts. She directs and choreographs musicals, stage plays, and community productions that bring people together through storytelling, music, and dance. Her work creates opportunities for young people and community members to build confidence, express themselves creatively, and connect with one another.
Tameka also plays a key role in organizing and choreographing Kwanzaa celebrations, using spoken word, dance, and theater to honor culture, celebrate community, and teach younger generations about the principles of unity, creativity, and collective responsibility.
